Summary

I am a senior quality engineer with 19 years of experience, mostly in fintech and video games, working fully remotely from Michigan, USA. I love to help teams solve problems and automate at every level, especially API and system automation. I enjoy working directly with engineers, and being involved in the software delivery process as early as possible. I’m an international speaker on everything from dev/QA relationships to automating tests against APIs using RestSharp, and enjoy participating in podcasts as well.

My computer science degree and experience in automation help me to quickly build rapport with developers, allowing for better collaboration and increased quality. I greatly enjoy the individual contributor roles, rather than architect or lead. Theory and company strategy are super important, but I enjoy getting my hands dirty more – test planning and strategy, manual testing and authoring automation (either automated tests or automation to assist testing or the team as a whole).

AI can be an assistant, but I’m not AI-first: I need to understand the problem-space, the automation framework, the user flows etc myself first. How else will I know when the AI is wrong? I appreciate where it can help and where to be cautious. There are also the environmental and socio-economic impacts of AI that will always give me pause before I use it. I have just started looking into testing AI output, especially in a “red team” capacity; I have not yet had the opportunity to do any hands-on. See my job search post for more on this.

I highly value diversity and inclusion, and participate in employee resource networks. It’s incredibly important to be able to bring my whole self to work, and that is difficult to do without the culture surrounding these networks.
